Indicators Project:  Environment



“Sustainable Seattle” lists 7 environmental indicators:

  • Wild salmon
  • Ecological health
  • Soil erosion
  • Air quality
  • Pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly streets
  • Open space near urban villages
  • Impervious surfaces

 

In addition, at the Citizens’ Voices meeting on 27 January, these indicators were also suggested:

  • River quality
  • Parks & recreation areas
  • Wildlife diversity
  • Longest distance to walk to a grocery store
  • Water quality & quantity of use & remaining capacity
  • Housing

 

 

Indicators

·        Air quality—industrial pollution, automotive exhaust, etc.

·        Drinking water and the factors threatening it—i.e., supply and sustainability, quality, consumption.

·        Surface water—regulation of land use, development, addition of impervious services, and CREP setasides

·        Land use—zoning and restrictions, development, public areas and their regulation.

·        Examination of wildlife—i.e., amphibians and wild birds, using existing research where available.

·        Parks & Recreation usage
