Citizens’ Voices Minutes

July 11, 2007

Present: Mike, Jeanne, Tony, Dave, Ardie, Tim, Malda

Correction of the June 27th notes - Anne Ganey was also present at that meeting.

Jeanne will not be able to attend the CV meetings for the rest of the summer.

Mike met with Dave Engen & Dave Boyce for further refinements of "Echoes From the Valley" That will be the title of the overall project. It allows for subgroups such as "Voices from the Edge" for the recordings made at Laurel's Edge. Recording will begin there in mid-August. Mike will keep us informed. Those interested in becoming interviewers or otherwise becoming involved in production of the recordings are welcome as observers.

Tim is developing a  "present budget" for this project. This budget will have to work with the current money allocated to the project, $1200. Tim will also work on a "future budget" for the activities needed on a larger scale activity.

At this time we will be borrowing equipment from existing organizations and using their facilities.

Laurel's Edge is a rich source of people with stories to tell. Another place is Lincoln Community Center where a whole other group of people, the recent immigrants, would be accessible.

As noted before in mailings, our next regional forum is on July 17th. This is on a Tuesday evening  on the "The Effects of Immigration and Growth on Education".

Dave is trying to plan all the meetings to be on Thursdays at the Police Annex in North Mankato, but it simply is not possible.

There will not be any Forums in August. Dave will attempt to set up the forums for three months beginning in September. If that is possible perhaps we could advertise them as a group in an ad in the Free Press & other media.

We discussed starting our meetings at 8:00 am instead of at 7:30. That would not work out; however, since we are rarely finished at 8:30, interested persons can come at 8:00 & feel welcome to participate. We generally discuss several issues & projects.
